South Korea’s deep-rooted green tea culture is a testament to its long-standing appreciation for tea as a daily ritual and a symbol of well-being. Green tea cultivation thrives in the southern regions of Korea, particularly in Jeju Island and Boseong, where the mild climate and fertile soil produce some of the finest tea leaves in the world. Today, this tradition blends seamlessly with modern trends, as matcha—a powdered form of green tea—has taken the café scene by storm. In this post, we’ll explore some of the best cafés in Seoul where you can indulge in high-quality matcha lattes and unique tea experiences, perfect for anyone from matcha novices to dedicated enthusiasts.

Metcha (맷차)

Located in the heart of Myeongdong near Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station (Line 2), this four-story café offers a unique experience for matcha lovers. The café grinds its matcha fresh using a traditional Metdol (멧돌: a traditional stone mill), blending it into a “matcha milk tea” which is on the sweeter end of matcha lattes. The interior design draws inspiration from traditional Korean furniture and the iconic 멧돌, creating a harmonious mix of heritage and modernity. Its spacious layout and a large collection of souveniers make it a perfect stop for tourists exploring the area.

Super Matcha (슈퍼말차)

Super Matcha, located near Seoul Forest and Seongsu, is an iconic hip café celebrated for its sleek modern interior and signature deep green aesthetic. Serving organic matcha, their matcha latte boasts a bold, rich flavor that sets it apart. Pair your drink with their popular black matcha roll cake, or cool off in the summer with their refreshing shaved ice dessert. Adding a futuristic charm, the café features a robot that expertly whisks matcha, making this a must-visit spot for matcha enthusiasts exploring the Seongsu area.

Gabaedo (가배도)

Gabaedo is a haven for matcha lovers, offering a perfectly balanced matcha latte that appeals to all palates. Their matcha tiramisu is a standout treat, and the roasted matcha (hoji) latte provides a delightful, earthy alternative. With its clean zen interior, Gabaedo creates a serene atmosphere to enjoy your drinks. Conveniently, their many locations across Seoul make it easy to visit wherever you are.

Osulloc (오설록)

Osulloc, owned by Korean cosmetic giant Amore Pacific, is celebrated for its premium teas sourced from the pristine fields of Jeju Island. Their matcha latte, crafted with a variety of high-quality Korean teas, delivers a rich, authentic flavor that truly stands out. The Yongsan flagship location, housed within the stunning Amore Pacific headquarters designed by renowned architect David Chipperfield, is my personal favorite, but I reccomend the Bukchon location if you want to experience a more traditional setting
